1. Why do you ask for my personal information?
We ask for this information because the safety of our members is our priority. By being able to verify a person's name, address and phone number we are confident that those we accept are who they say they are. The system is not perfect, but we would rather lose a few good customers than lower our standards. All our members go through the same screening process. We are selective and we reject about 20% of new applicants. We never share, sell, rent or release a member's personal information. See our Privacy Statement for more information.
2. Why do I need a username and password?
Your username and password are used to protect your privacy and they allow our system to recognize you as a registered member. You will need to sign in with your username and password at every visit so that you can make changes to your profile, contact other members, to check your messages and reply to messages.
3. I forgot my username and or password. How do I find it?
At the Log-in box you will see the words "Forgot?" You will then be required to submit your e-mail address. If your e-mail address exists in our database you will receive an e-mail reply with your username and password.
4. How do I change my password?
After logging in, click on Change Password in the My Account section. You can then change your password. Usernames can only be changed by GreenSingles.
5. Why am I having a problem logging in?
Remember that passwords are case-sensitive. Enter them exactly as created. Usernames are not case-sensitive.
6. Receiving notices and spam blockers
To help you manage your account, we send a number of automated messages. If you or your email provider is using spam blocking software, be sure to include webmaster@greensingles.com in your address book or safe senders list so you will receive these notices.
7. How can I manage my New Member Alerts?
Go to My Account in your account page. Click on Manage Alerts. Here you can choose to stop the alerts or to customize the alerts by age, location, distance, and frequency. 
8. How can I customize the New Message Alerts?
When a member sends you a message, we send a notice to your personal email address to alert you to your new mail. You can turn these notices off or choose how often you want to receive them. Go to My Account in your account page and choose Manage Alerts. After making your choice, click Update to save your preferences.

How to Contact Members
1. How do I contact members?
In order to contact members, you must be a registered member and have your profile posted on GreenSingles. Login with your username and password. Search for the profile of the member you wish to contact. While viewing their full profile, click the link that says, "Send Smile" or Send Message." This will launch your message center where you can send a smile or a custom message.
2. I have a free membership. Can other members contact me?
All members can contact each other. Free members can send and receive smiles. Free members can also be contacted by Full or Credit members. A Free member who receives a personal message from a Full or Credit member can respond to that message with their own personal message.
3. What is the smile feature?
A smile is a quick, fun way for free members to let someone know that they are interested. You pick a message from our list of smiles, and it's sent to the member of your choice. The member gets the smile in his or her onsite Mailbox and then can look at your profile and reply to you. There is no limit to the number of smiles you can send or the number of members you can smile at. If you'd like to take it a step further, we suggest upgrading to a Full or Credit Membership and begin a real conversation by sending full messages.
4. How do I know if I am contacting a paid member?
It really doesn't matter if they are a Free, Full or Credit member. Your message or smile will go directly to their Green Singles mailbox. If you receive a personal message from another member, that would indicate that they have either a Full or Credit membership.
5. I am free member, can I reply to an ad?
With a free membership you can contact other members by sending one of our free smiles. You can reply to all messages you receive by sending a smile. If you receive a personal message from another member, you can reply with a personal message. However, you cannot initiate personal messages unless you are a Full or Credit member.
6. How long a message can I write?
There is no limit on the length of your messages. However, try not to overwhelm someone by writing too much, especially on your initial message. Check our Online Etiquette for tips in responding to members.
7. Can I keep track of who I contacted?
Yes you can view all you sent messages. In your mail box is a "Sent Mail" section with copies of all the messages you sent. You can also click on the "link" symbol to view all correspondence with a particular member.
8. What's the difference between a Full and Credit membership?
A monthly membership allows you to contact an unlimited number of members with personal messages during the term of the membership. A credit membership allows to contact the number of members equal to the credits you buy. Buy 10 credits, contact 10 members with personal messages. Once you have made the initial contact with a member, all subsequent messages between you are free. In addition, credits do not expire until you use them. With both memberships, the member you contact will be able to reply with a personal message even if they only have a free membership.

My Personal Profile
1. How do I create a personal profile?
On our front page click on the Register Now! button. Complete the short registration process to create your own account and personal profile. Your new account will be submitted for review before it is approved and posted online. You will be notified once your profile has been approved.
2. How do I make changes to my profile?
To edit your profile, log in and click on Edit Profile under Profile Controls. Make the necessary changes and click the Update button to save your changes. You can change or edit your profile as often as you wish. All text changes are reviewed before being posted online.
3. Is all this information mandatory?
Most of the information fields are optional. However, this is the information most people will want to know about you, The more information you supply, the more likely your ad will show up in a search. Which means you are more likely to receive responses to your listing. The person who reads your ad wants to find something in common with you. It could be anything, from the groups you support, your musical tastes, hobbies or just your thoughts on life. Don't hold back. For helpful tips, see the Writing A Great Profile help section.
4. Are there guidelines or limits to what I can write?
There is no word limit in the text boxes, however too much text can be overwhelming to read. Too little text is also a problem as no one wants to reply to an empty profile. Find that happy balance. Remember, you are trying to attract attention. Tell more about yourself than your requirements of others, and always be truthful and positive. You may NOT include any references to your full name, personal web sites, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, references to other dating sites, instant messaging numbers, or anything generally deemed to be rude or vulgar. We will edit or remove any profile that violates these guidelines.
5. Can I hide my profile?
You can hide your profile from public view in the Profile Controls section of your account page. Click on Show/Hide Profile. Then click the button to activate your choice. While your profile is hidden you cannot contact other members or receive new messages.  However, you can continue to communicate with members you previously contacted.
6. How do I change my city or address information?
To change your city, state or address information, login with your username and password. Under My Account, click Edit Personal Info to make your changes. Click the Update button to save your changes. Changes that will appear online will be reviewed for approval.
7. How long can I keep my profile hidden?
You can keep your profile hidden indefinitely. While hidden you cannot be contacted. Also, if your profile is hidden and your account is inactive for 180 days, we will assume that you are no longer interested. Your account will be deleted. To keep your account active, you should simply login regularly.
8. Why does my profile show strange symbols?
This was most likely caused by copying and pasting your profile text from another source, such as a word processing program. This picks up the coding or formatting from that source. The best way to correct this it to retype your profile text and delete the current text.
9. Is there a time limit for completing my profile?
Our profile pages have a 60 minute time limit before a "page time-out" would occur. If this happens the process could stop and your profile could be lost. If you find that you need more time, complete the About Me section and the rest of the registration process. After your account has been approved, you can complete your profile in the Edit Profile section of your account page.

Writing A Great Profile
1. Be Specific
Remember, the object of your profile is to attract attention and writing a great profile is the best way to get attention and get others to respond. Generalities are more difficult to relate to. Consider the following as a common example of being too general. "I have a sense of humor, enjoy hiking, the beach, I like books, movies and cooking." Now consider the following, more specific and appealing entry: "I really enjoy hiking up a hill near my house, looking out over the ocean and would love to share the view with someone special. I love to read and can't wait to find that next great mystery. I love to cook Italian and would love to have someone join me for my famous lasagna dinner. What's your favorite food? TIP: Add a question or two in your profile which others might be able to answer for you. This will offer others the chance they may be looking for to write you!
2. Mention Your Passions
If you have interests or things you are passionate about, tell others about them! People who have interests are viewed as interesting people! If you really like organic gardening; if you really enjoy cooking vegetarian cuisine or volunteering at the local food pantry; if you love baseball or going to your daughter's soccer games; include this in your profile and tell others why you enjoy it! Mention what has shaped or changed your life. This will help paint a more accurate picture of yourself. If your passion means that much to you, you will want your mate to at least support you and listen to you as you ramble on about it. Be careful however, not to ramble on too much on one topic. You do not want to appear one-dimensional: save something for your correspondence with others. TIP: Don’t forget the theme of GreenSingles when listing your interests and passions.
3. Smile When You Write
When you smile as you write, it shows! It tells others you are happy and well adjusted, and that you would be an excellent person to share one's life with. Who wants to meet someone who sounds like they just stubbed their toe? Be aware of how you might appear to others. If you were someone else reading your profile, would you want to correspond with you? Use your profile to display your sense of humor in a tasteful manner. Humor generates interest. Smiling and writing does not apply just to your written answers in your profile, but also in the messages you send out to others.
4. Be Honest
Everyone wants to meet an honest person. Dishonesty is the number one reason online relationships fail. It is extremely important that you portray yourself in an honest light prior to meeting someone face to face. If you spend too much time trying to be something you think others will be attracted to, it will eventually come back to haunt you and you will have hurt yourself and possibly others in so doing. So, if you are an impulsive person, tell others you make quick decisions and sometimes not the best ones. Add that you seize the moment! If you have a tendency to take on too many tasks when things are going "well" in your life, include this information in your list of personal goals. This indicates that although you have faults, arrogance is not one of them and that you are aware of where you need help in your life. (Someone special might help to keep you on track!!) Do not tell others every bad detail about yourself! Be positive in your profile, even about your faults. You want to show you are honest but you also want to show your confidence and your sense of humor in life. We all have our faults and those who dwell on their faults are not fun to be around at the best of times. In short, dishonesty ruins relationships; honesty, mixed with joy, builds relationships which last.
5. Don't Sit back & Wait
Once you have that new appealing profile created, the next thing you need to do is write to others. Login and take the initiative and write to others. The best way to get mail from others is to send mail yourself. It drives members to your profile. Set yourself a goal of sending at least 3-5 new messages each week. Everyone on GreenSingles is waiting to receive mail, so overcome your hesitation and send off some messages. Your profile needs to get attention from the people you want to meet so get the ball rolling and write to everyone who interests you. TIP: When you write others, be sure to read their profiles first so that your letters to them are more personalized. Ask a question or two about them, which they can answer for you. This will increase the number of replies you receive. Also, include a few extra details, which your profile does not mention.
6. Don't Forget Photos
Profiles that have photos attract more attention and are usually viewed first. Photos should be recent, no more than 2 years old. A vertical head and shoulders photo works best for your Main Photo. And don’t forget the power of a smile!
7. Best Advice
Be as active as you can on GreenSingles. Login often and respond to all mail you receive. Those who login more often, send more messages, or smiles, consistently report making more friends on GreenSingles. This greatly improves your chance of meeting that special someone.

Posting Photos
1. What are the guidelines for posting a photo?
You may post up to 7 photos. Your Main Photo should be a recent photo of yourself alone. Head and shoulder shots work best. You may also include any photo that helps describe you or your interests. All photos are submitted for approval before being posted.

We will not accept photos which contain nudity, contact information, advertising information or logos, cartoons, copyrighted materials, young children unless accompanied by an adult, or anything we deem to be inappropriate. Photos should also be "right-side up."
2. How do I post a photo?
To post photos, login with your username and password. Under Profile Controls, click on Manage Profile Photos. Click the browse button and locate the photo in your computer. We only accept JPG, GIF, or PNG file formats. Each photo should be no larger than 3 MB or 8x10 in size. Click the Upload Photos button to upload your photo. Repeat this process for each photo you post.

By default the first photo you post will be your Main Photo, but you can change this anytime. All members may post up to 7 photos. All photos are submitted for approval and you will be notified when your photos are approved.
3. Can I email my photo for you to post?
You can send your photos as email attachments to photos@greensingles.com and we will post them for you. Please include your profile number or username in your email. We will crop your photos using our best judgment unless you specify otherwise.
4. I don't have a scanner. Can I mail you my photos for you to post?
You can mail us your photos and we will scan and post them at no charge. Send to: GS Photos, PO Box 69, Pickerington OH 43147-0069 USA. Please include your profile number. Do not send negatives, slides or any irreplaceable photos. If you want your photos returned, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Although we take reasonable care, we are not responsible for lost or damaged photos.
5. Can I send a photo privately to a member?
If you have a full or credit membership, you can send a photo privately to another member by attaching it to a message. You will first need to upload a photo into the Manage Private Photo section of your account page. A free member can attach a photo as a reply to a full or credit member. Private photos are also submitted for approval and our photo guidelines still apply.
6. My photo is not visible on my ad. Is there a problem?
All profile and private photos are submitted for approval before they are posted. This process usually takes 4 hours or less during normal business hours. You will be sent a notice when your photos have been approved.

Membership and Fees
1. What is a Free Membership?
A Free Membership allows you to place your own personal profile, post 7 photos, view ads of other members and enable other members to contact you. As a free member you can also let other members know you are interested in them by sending them smiles. However, you cannot send personal messages unless you upgrade to a Full or Credit membership.
2. What is a Full Membership?
A Full Membership allows you to send unlimited personal messages during the term of your membership. You can also post up to 7 photos in your profile, 1 private photo and post an ad in our GreenMarket. We recommend this membership as a best value. We have 4 full membership plans: 3 months=$24; 6 months=$32; 12 months=$48; 24 months=$72.
3. What is a Credit Membership?
With a Credit membership, you can contact members with a personal message equal to the number of credits you bought. If you have 10 credits you can contact 10 different members. Credits do not expire until you use them and you can still send smiles if you do not wish to spend a credit. Once you have contacted a member, all subsequent contacts between you and that member are free as long as you use the message reply feature. We have 4 Credit packages: 10 Credits-$15; 25 Credits-$30; 35 Credits-$40; 60 Credits-$60
4. How do I upgrade my Membership?
You can upgrade or renew your membership from your member account page. Click on the Manage Membership under My Account. Select a membership plan and click the Buy Now button. Then enter your credit or debit card information and click the Make Payment button. If your payment was successful, you will receive a confirmation by email. We accept credit card payments by Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express. We also accept debit cards that are part of the Visa or MasterCard network. All payments are processed through a safe, secure, and encrypted online server.
5. What other payment options do I have?
You can pay by credit or debit card by phone. Online credit card payments are automatically activated. You may also pay by phone during office hours. Call us toll-free at 877-669-0633. You may also mail a personal check or money order, in US funds only, payable to GreenMatch LLC. Send to GS, PO Box 69, Pickerington, OH 43147.
6. Will you automatically renew my membership?
No! Unlike other sites, we never auto-renew memberships. The choice to renew is only yours. A few days before your  membership expires , you will be sent a reminder. You can then renew if you wish and continue contacting members without interruption. If you choose not to renew, your membership will automatically be converted to a free membership for s long as you wish.

Our Anonymous E-mail System
1. Why is your messaging anonymous?
Messages sent using our internal messaging system are anonymous. This is to protect your personal information. Your private email address is never revealed. You control the flow of your private information and we always advise caution before revealing your personal email, phone number or other contact information.
2. How do I know if I get mail?
When someone sends you a smile or a personal message, it is delivered to your on-site Green Singles mailbox. At the same time you are automatically sent a notice to your private email alerting you to check your GS mailbox. If you change your email address, be sure to update your GreenSingles account.
3. Can I send someone my email address or phone number?
You can put any information, such as an email address or phone number in your message. Although we do suggest caution before revealing too much private information. Be sure you get to know someone before you give out personal information.
4. How long do you keep mail in my account?
To make it easier to track your messages, we suggest that you delete messages that you no longer want. Deleted messages cannot be retrieved. However, you may keep your messages as long as you wish.
5. I hid my profile. Can I still send messages?
In order to send a first message or smile, your profile must be posted online. This allows the member to see the profile of the person who wrote to them. However, if you hide your profile after your initial contact you can still communicate with a members you contacted.
6. I hid my profile. Can I still receive messages?
If you hide your profile other members cannot send you messages. You can only receive replies to messages you previously sent.
7. Where can I read my new and sent messages?
You can read and manage your messages under Member Controls in your account page. Your Inbox and Sent Mail sections contain all your messages.  The Inbox contains your new received message and the Sent Mail section contains a copies of all messages you sent.
8. What does the "link" symbol do?
Clicking the "link" symbol next to a message in either your Inbox or Sent Mail section, shows you all the correspondence from a particular member.
9. Is there a time limit for writing messages?
Our message page has a 60 minute time limit before a "page time-out" would occur. If this happens your message would be lost. If you plan to take more than 60 minutes to compose and write your message, you should do it offline and paste it into your message box.

Search Features
1. How do I do a Basic Search?
In your account page, click the Member Search button or Search on our navigation bar. The Basic Search allows you to search by listing category, age range, relationship goal, location, and keywords. Make your selections and click the green Search button to activate your search.
2. How can I do an Advanced Search?
Our Advanced Search includes all the features of the Basic Search. In addition you can choose to add options from all of our descriptive menus. Keep in mind that the more options you select, the fewer your results. Choose only those options that are most important to you.
3. How can choose more than one option?
In the Basic and Advanced Searches you can select multiple items in a search field. Hold the control/option key of your computer and click on individual choices. To select a range of options, hold the shift key and click a range of choices. Then click the Green Search to activate your search.
4. How can I search by a "nickname"?
Under Search Options choose the Nickname Search. Enter a full or partial nickname to search. Since nicknames are not unique, you may find multiple profiles.
5. How can I search by a Profile Number?
Under Search Options, choose Profile Number Search. Enter member's profile number to search. Profile numbers are unique so only one profile will be found.
6. What is the keyword search?
In the Basic and Advanced Searches you can find profiles that contain certain words in their text areas. For example, if you want to find someone who likes camping, you can search the words camp or camping to this field. You can use whole or partial words separated by commas. If the words in a profile are not separated by a comma or a space, the keyword search will not find them.
7. Can I sort my search results?
By default, all searches are sorted by the last time a members logged into the site. The more often you login, the higher up you will come in searches. You can also select to sort searches by Join Date. These results put the newest members at the top of the list.
8. Can I save my search selections?
Your search selections are automatically saved during your online sessions. You can clear your search parameters by clicking the link on the search page. Once you log off the site, your saved choices are cleared.
9. Can I change the number of profiles I can view on a page?
The default is 15 profiles per page. However, in the Basic and Advanced Search pages, you can choose to view 10-50 profiles per page.

Replies to My Ad
1. How do I read the replies to my ad?
You must log in to your account page where you will see that you have new mail. Click on the subject line to read the message. We use an anonymous email system so the sender’s email is protected unless they include it in their message.
2. I am not getting many replies, what could be wrong?
Members who post photos get the more replies. I am sure that you check out the ads with photos first. Maybe your ad needs more information. People are more likely to reply if they see something that they have in common with you. Do not talk about past relationships, divorce, etc. People are turned off by this in an ad. Check the Help/FAQ section on "Writing A Great Profile" for additional tips.
3. I received a message, but I'm not interested. What should I do?
If you are not interested in the person, we urge you to reply. It's simply the polite thing to do. It may take courage for someone to write and I'm sure they would appreciate receiving a reply. You can even use one of our smiles for a quick reply.
4. Can I block a member from contacting me?
To block a member, login and search for the member's profile. Open it and click the link that says "Block." This will add them to your Blocked list. If a blocked member tries to contact you, they receive a message that you are not accepting messages from them. They will not be able to contact you unless you remove the block.
5. What are bookmarks?
When you find a member's profile that you are interested in, you can add it to a list in your account page for later review and contact. Click the link on the profile that says "bookmark this member." From this favorites list, you can quickly review the profile and contact the member.
6. Can I see who viewed my profile?
You cannot see who viewed your profile. However, we do allow you to see who bookmarked your profile. We feel this is a better indicator of interest. This is an opt in feature, so members who bookmark you can choose to remain anonymous. You can set your bookmark preference under My Bookmarks in your account page.
7. Can I see who bookmarked me?
You can see who bookmarked you if the member has opted to allow this. You can see their profile under Who's Bookmarked Me in your account page.

Canceling My Membership
1. My paid membership expired. Will you cancel my account?
When a paid membership expires it is automatically converted back to a free membership and stays online as long as you wish.
2. How do I cancel my account?
To cancel your account, log in to the website. In your account page, select My Account click on Cancel Account. Select the reason you are cancelling and click the Cancel Account button.
3. I cancelled my account. Can I get it back?
When you cancel an account, it will be held in a canceled state for the next 30 days. You can login and reinstate your account within 30 days. After 30 days, your account and all its content will be permanently deleted and cannot be retrieved.
4. If I delete my account, can I still receive messages?
No, if you delete your account, you can no longer receive mail from other members though our website.
5. I met someone after a month, can I get a refund?
As stated in our Terms of Membership, we do not pro-rate unused memberships or give refunds. Your membership is valid for the term you purchased. We hope you will take full advantage of it.
