More Depth
Describe yourself (personality/attitude/passions/beliefs):
I am a warm and friendly, honest, loyal and spiritual-minded being with a lot of love to give and I am also an incurable romantic. Relationships, whether they are friendships or something more, real connection and nature,(hills and trees especially), are the things that nourish me. I am an animal lover, particularly dogs. I trust that the Universe knows what it is doing and will lead me to someone lovely.
I have been fascinated by many aspects and forms of spirituality since my late teens and am attuned for Reiki.
I will always take an alternative approach to health before an allopathic one and have a great interest in the metaphysics of health; the body keeps the score... I am a trauma therapist and I'm pretty passionate about anything related to energy healing and alternative practices!
I have been a Nichiren Daishonin Buddhist for over 20 years and chant x2/day. My faith and practice are an important bookend to my day and to my life. I am also exploring meditation and breathwork as a means by which to change my karma from that of a human doing to a human being; it's a work in progress!
Describe the type of person you'd like to meet:
Initially I would like to meet a travel companion/friend; someone who wants to share my curiosity for visiting new places. I have a yen to explore the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland. I'd like a good listener and a good conversationalist, someone who is kind, caring, warm, loving, tactile, curious, open-minded, compassionate, honest, sincere and has a strong moral compass. In my eyes you will have a lovely open face, kind eyes and a warm smile. I like the sound of a moderate to deep voice and an infectious laugh. Should our adventures as travel companions bring us together I want to feel loved and cherished and to love and cherish in return.
We all have our human revolution to experience and I would like to meet someone who is open to our relationship being an opportunity to polish our lives together, learn from one another and grow as people through honest, open and heartfelt communication .
I'd like to meet someone who knows what the theme tune to their life is/has been and what they might want it to be. I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours :-)
I love being outdoors in nature and have a particular love of trees; so someone who also enjoys the countryside, likes historic/interesting sites (I have a love of architecture) and woodland walks, come rain or shine is my kind of companion.
I'd like to meet someone who enjoys sharing experiences like cooking meals and doing DIY (I like practical men and I'd like to learn to use the power tools I own), exploring the countryside (e.g. taking that road that has no sign post just to see where it goes), travelling, doing a crossword, going to the theatre or a concert (classical or other) and just 'being' together in one another's company.
I scrub up well and I would like to meet someone who doesn't need me to be made up all the time; I'm a country lass and prefer to wear little makeup.
What should a great date consist of?
What I'd like a great date to consist of is great conversation, goosebumps, a recognised connection, laughter, a walk in nature and enjoying one another's company.
Describe your work/business and what it means to you:
My work is my passion; it took me 40 years to find my purpose and many blind alleys along the way but it was worth the wait. I'm a specialist trauma therapist working with adults and, even at my most weary, my work energises me which tells me that it is what I was born to do. My work is based on somatics and to watch someone be able to reconnect with their body, grow and begin to heal by being seen and heard is a joy to me. As Winnicott says, "It is a joy to be hidden and a disaster not to be found."
Share something unusual or extra special about yourself:
I have undertaken advanced motorcycle training and had two 600cc bikes.
What do you like to do for fun/activities?
I love to read and learn; I'm something of a knowledge junkie and am exploring photography as a complete novice. I enjoy gardening, needlepoint and things that are creative and that I can do while listening to music or chatting with a friend/partner. I love being out in nature particularly in the hills. Equally I really enjoy a classical or rock concert. Sometimes I just like watching rubbish telly - NCIS is a particular favourite! I've recently come across oshu dynamic meditation and ecstatic dance, which are great fun.
Circumstance have enabled me to begin to travel again and I've recently returned from Eastern Europe, an area I'd like to explore with a companion. I lived and worked in Indonesia for a while and love S.E. Asia, the smells and the climate and a regular dose of that would be most welcome.
Where do you see yourself 5 years from today?
In five year's time I am in a loving and strong interdependent relationship in which we are deeply attuned to one another. I have a prospering private therapy practice which incorporates breathwork for trauma release (BBTRS). I have a campervan, a long-held dream, which doubles as my mobile therapy room, so that I work from anywhere and also allows my partner and I take off at the drop of a hat to wherever we choose.
I live in a cosy, future-proof home in a small town with a strong spiritual feeling, on a hill surrounded by beautiful countryside, (I'm a Scot by birth and I've lived all over this beautiful country so perhaps Totnes, Frome, Ashbourne, Castleton, Hebden Bridge, Findhorn, who knows?). There are artisan and local amenities within walking distance and good travel links, including a railway station and airport. I continue to support my Buddhist and BBTRS communities.
What types of books/authors do you enjoy and why?
I LOVE books (as opposed to Kindle-type) of all sorts because I love to turn a page and I have several bookshelves full of heavy-weight psychology tomes, spiritual books and lighter novels. I'm interested in people's lives and enjoy biographies but I also like to escape into a story, though fantasy, sci-fi and horror are not my thing.
What/who are some of your favorite movies/films/actors?
I'm a wuss when it comes to movies; it's over a 12A you probably won't get me going to see it. Whatever happened to films without gratuitous swearing, sex or violence? Accordingly I love a good old black and white Sunday afternoon weepy e.g. Close Encounter (1945), The Cruel Sea, The Maltese Falcon, Ice Cold in Alex ... you get the idea.
I do like more modern stuff too, but as I've travelled along my path of spiritual growth and feel so much more, I find that the Mad Max type action films that I used to love are not at the top of my list now. In fact, anything horrific, too tense or which humiliates characters isn't for me. I told you I was a wuss!
I'm not averse to a bit of eye candy, Clint Eastwood and Tom Cruise for example :-)
What kind of music moves you?
I was brought up with classical and choral music which moves me greatly especially if I'm experiencing it within the great acoustics of a church or cathedral. I find oboe music resonates with me particularly, as does the purity of a treble voice.
I'm an incurable romantic and am moved by lyrics and melody in contemporary music. My internet radio is tuned to love songs and I'm a great fan of 80s music.
What kind of pets do you have? (Names)?
Sadly I have just had to have my much-loved 12 year old mini Schnauzer, Islay, put to sleep. I don't have any plans to have another pet at the moment.
Do you support any charitable organizations?
Crisis and anything that is supported by the National Lottery (including the charity for whom I work), and the Postcode Lottery. Without the generosity of players I wouldn't have had some of the wonderful jobs I've had that have been funded by them.
What makes you smile?
Washing blowing on the line; the wind blowing through my hair; a beautiful blue sky with fluffy clouds; a hot shower after a soggy walk, going to work with my clients, being with friends; hugs; a card or letter from a friend; random conversations with strangers that lift my heart; a tax rebate :-)
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Time together :-)
